Day 7 Are we there yet?

I forgot to post this a few days ago.  Here is our drive home every evening in the Douro Valley.

I don't know if you've heard about the fires in Portugal right now but we drove near them on our way to Coimbra.

Our first stop on our way to Lisbon was in the town of Coimbra where there is a beautiful library at the university.  They don't allow pictures so this is a picture off of the interwebs but I can attest that it looks just like this.

Here is a video from the top of one of the adjoining buildings.

We got to the top of the town where the library was but couldn't find any parking until we had gotten to the bottom.  We walked 15 minutes up hill through narrow streets in this temperature.

We were digging the instructions on how to walk across the street.

Lunch was leg of lamb with fries and skewers of shrimp and squid with potatoes and the same dreary salad.  Beer for me and vinho verde for Rebecca.

We hit Lisbon right at 5:00 and decided to try and drop off our things and check into the hotel before returning the car.  This was an enormous mistake.  It turns out, the street we're staying on in the old part of town is closed to cars so we could get close but couldn't park anywhere so we gave up and returned the car.  It was only 4 miles away but it took half an hour and was treacherous.  We panicked trying to find a gas station in town and when we finally found one we realized it was right at the Hertz place.  Classic.  A quick 25 minute uber ride and we were at our place.  Here is our view.

We had a dink on the patio and decided to walk to a tram line which is popular because it drives through a lot of the city.  After waiting on it for 30 minutes we gave up and started walking.  We thought we might go hear some Fado but it just seemed too touristy.  This little Italian restaurant seating area next to the wall of a Gothic church seemed just right.

Octopus carpaccio - fantastic, arugula salad with zucchini, mozzerella, parmeggiano reggiano, and pesto, black linguini with shrimp in tomato sauce.  Excellent.

The walk home looked like this.  Street after street of grilled sardines and stands selling cherry wine and stuff.  We should have taken more pictures but Lisbon is enormous and I'm not quite sure how to capture it.
