Day 8A Supplemental - DINNER AT LOCO!

I decided when we booked this trip that we ought to have a fancy meal while in Portugal.  Ultimately I chose the restaurant Loca - a Michelin star place - because it looked like the sort of meal we're unlikely to find in America.  You have a choice of an experience with 14 or 18 "moments" to choose from and as there was only a 10 euro difference we chose to have all of the possible moments.

Here is the outside which I took after the meal which is why it's dark.  Our reservation was for 7:00 and we were done at 9:45.

Right inside the door was a hanging olive tree.

Here is Rebecca with our glasses of spumante which were great moments though not official.

I'm just going to list what these were as they were explained to us.

Cod cake on cracker with egg yolk

 Asparagus with lime jelly

At the beginning of the meal your are brought a box with two keys and asked to pick one.  You find out why at the end of the meal.

Broccoli mousse with dried fennel

Mussels with chili sauce

Steamed chorizo bread

Oysters with olive oil and orange emulsion

Croquettes with rhubarb ketchup

A quick wipe down

White bread and stout bread with 4 butters - sheep's milk, cow's milk with nori, cow's milk with parsley, and cow's milk with red pepper.  Steak sauce.  Olive oil.

Razor clam ceviche with frozen tangerine

Amberjack cured in sake and soy.  Mayo made with olive oil and the head and bones of cod.  Tuscan kale.

Horse mackerel in olive oil and duck sauce.

Red snapper cooked in banana leaf with spirulina crackers.

Some sort of warm coconut drink.

Slow cooked and smoked duck breast.  Tuscan kale roasted in duck fat.  "Pringle chip"

Beef tongue cooked for 3 days!  Onion with pickled mustard seeds. Parsley and parsnip purees.

Nori with soy cream.  Lime jelly on top.

Bacon and spices.  (Bacon ice cream underneath crackers of Moroccan spices.

Strawberries and tomatoes and red pepper sorbet.

A very complicated way to make coffee.

Petit fours.

We ate two before I took the picture.

Berliners

Rebecca told me I had to take a trip to the loo so here are some pictures.

It took me a while to get the sink going.

Who needs fancy bathroom decorations when you find an interesting stick?

I didn't take a picture of the key experience but a box was brought over with a lock on it.  We both tried our keys and Rebecca's opened the box.  I'm not telling what was in the box but I didn't get any!
